Hangover IV Therapy Chemistry

1. Dehydration: Alcohol has a diuretic effect on the body, causing increased urine production by Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH; Vasopressin). Up to 4X as much water is lost as gained. Vomiting, diarrhea, and sweating further contribute to dehydration.

2. Upset: Ethanol directly affects the lining of the stomach causing gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) and delayed stomach emptying. It also causes increased intestinal secretion production. These contribute to stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea.

3. Nutrient Deficiencies: With fluid loss, the body loses many important vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. Some nutrients are destroyed in the body by alcohol.
